Regional variations in US temperature trends

There is a good report about temperature trends in the US on the US Climate Central site (see https://www.climatecentral.org/wgts/heat-is-on/HeatIsOnReport.pdf ). An interesting point taken from this study is that climate change is not uniform and that mean annual temperature. In some states the mean temperature increase per decade (over a 100 year time frame) is about 0.34F for one state but as low as -0.07F/decade in another. Hence one's experience with climate change can be quite different from others in nearby states or continental regions. They also compare this decadal rate of temperature change over 100 and 50 year time frames. The data for average decadal temperature change since 1970 varies from 0.63F/decade to 0.25F/decade. For the past 50 years all states have increasing temperature per decade. The annual data presented in some example cases show a lot of scatter but a clear upward trend.

Another good site is climatecentral's home page at www.climatecentral.org
Their discussion of the fastest warming seasons is consistent with long term perspectives. Some older residents can remember ice skating regularly on frozen lakes along with more frequent early snow falls for cross country skiing. Winter is the fastest warming season east of the US Rocky Mountains. On average throughout the continent winter warming tops the list.
